So a little bit about me…
While I’m a Brisbane boy at heart, my mind likes to roam.
Growing up in a typical Queenslander, perched on the side of Mt Gravatt, I used to daydream about flying off the hillside in a cardboard box, or getting lost in the jungle of vines engulfing the giant tree next door.
A four year old’s imagination…
But thankfully, no, I did not launch myself skyward. Rather, I channelled this creativity and curiosity in safer, more productive ways.
Namely—Korean language, creative copywriting, cultural exploration, and everyday life.
10 Years in South Korea
I first moved to Seoul to study in 2010, but that rapidly escalated, and I planted roots fully in 2013. My love of language turned into a full-fledged life change.
I grew passionate about culture and uncovering why things are done one way here, and another way there.
Green tea, Chinese characters, recovering lost traditions, and luxury branding all sprouted as new interests along the way.
But alas, Covid-19 and my fast-approaching 30th birthday brought me home!
Working on Seoul Time
I actually started my career in Korea too, as a lost yet impassioned intern at Asiance.
I credit this company with giving me the confidence to explore and do things I’d have never thought possible—big pitches to American Express, Luxotica, Samsung, and Calvin Klein.
Working life is tough in Korea, but the opportunities come fast and the exposure to giant brands, giant campaigns, and giant budgets is, well, enormous.
And I may have done a TV show or two…
Nevertheless, these experiences have shaped my career and my ideas.
To cut to the chase…
I live for an adventure. I thrive on curiosity. I love the pursuit of a nifty idea.
And if I can craft a killer story, I will.
