Samsung Mobile—Copywriting for Galaxy Z Fold4 Launch Video

Unpacked: Galaxy Z Fold4 Launch

Project brief—

A killer product deserves a killer introduction.

And when it’s the fourth iteration of the Galaxy Z Fold, there’s no compromising.

The goal here was to emphasise the device’s world-first tech in consumer-friendly words, but with a little extra flair to excite the crowd.

Key skills: script writing, translation, storyboards, global engagement

Project result—

When I joined this project there was only an initial script in Korean. But as the launch event was to be held in English, this needed to be reworded… literally and entirely!

The challenge here was not only the language, but nailing the terms—some very technical and still in R&D. I had my trusty Korean-to-English dictionary for the tougher words I didn’t know, but this was never going to be easy.

Thankfully with some effective communication between me and the team Seoul-side, we locked in the initial draft. Now it was over to the US for some smoothening and shortening.

At this point, I was evaluating edits made by the US, facilitating feedback from Seoul, and providing my own tweaks as that initial translation copy grew into the final video we see below.

Project learnings—

  • As always, working in two languages is tough but certainly exciting

  • Coordinating the copy and translation between the Korean team and the US-based agency required effective, streamlined communication

  • Be concise
